A Chance to Dance
Networking project

A project facilitating collaborative research and sharing of practices between dance artists connected to Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands. A Chance to Dance took place at the Nordic House in the Faroe Islands from the 22nd  - 28th 2024

During the project, 10 participating artists got the opportunity to delve into an test one’s own and others' creative practices and choreographic ideas. This was done through workshops-slots where artists presented and worked on a creative idea of theirs with the other participating artists.

A special focus was placed on the Faroese dance scene, which was done through various organised activities:

  • - Lecture by the dance film duo Rammatik about their work and creative journey

  • - A presentation about DansiEksperimentið and a HipHop class by Diana J. Hansen

  • - Introduction on RIVA The Faroese Dance Company and facilitated morning classes

  • - A round trip at the Nordic House in the Faroe Islands and talk with the director Gunn Hernes and producer Mie Meyle

    • 1. Presenting the outcome of the networks mapping project “Connecting North Atlantic Islands Through Dance Art”

    • 2. Discussing the purpose and future of NAI

  • - Two roundtable talks:

  • - Breakfast with local actors of the Faroese dance scene

  • - Local hike in Gjógv

  • - Aggrasoppar release concert in which the participating Faroese dancers were performing

On the 27th of March there was an open sharing of an improvised performance. The group collectively organised and prepared for the performance by drawing inspiration from the ideas presented during the week's practice sharings. We were pleasantly surprised when 70 people of all ages attended the sharing. We found it exciting to share this spontaneous format with the Faroese public.

The overall aim of the project was to research, spark creativity and strengthen the community. A Chance to Dance has been a way for each artist to establish new colleges that they can relate to and learn from - this is our biggest achievement.
